About
Interim seeks writing that engages the perilous conditions of life in the 21st century as they pertain to issues of social justice and the earth, writing that demonstrates an ethos that considers the human condition in inclusive love and sympathy while offering the same in consideration of the planet. Because we believe that the truth is always experimental, we especially appreciate work with innovative approaches.
Interim is an international literary journal that publishes poetry, translations, criticism, reviews, and hybrid texts by emerging and established writers. Former contributors include Christian Bök, Anselm Berrigan, Robin Blaser, Robert Creeley, Duriel E. Harris, Brenda Hillman, Paul Hoover, Eunsong Kim, Sandra Lim, Nathaniel Mackey, Henry Miller, Alice Notley, Mani Rao, Leslie Scalapino, Ely Shipley, Eleni Sikelianos, Patricia Smith, Rodrigo Toscano, William Carlos Williams, and Ronaldo Wilson. Issues of the journal are published quarterly online. We publish an annual print volume, as well.
Interim was founded by poet Wilber Stevens in 1944. In his tenure as editor, he published such luminaries as William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Henry Miller, and William Carlos Williams. Along with Witness and The Believer, Interim is a publication supported by the Black Mountain Institute and has been housed at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, since the 1960s.
