Grimspound

The wide grassy path that leads to the top of Bellever Tor, a granite tor 443 meters high. Cists, stone rows, and an ancient trackway dot the surrounding landscape.

After snowfall this winter, near Grimspound- a Bronze Age settlement. Note how the sheep blend in but for the red marks on their backs to show they’ve been tupped (are in lamb).

Small Copse Near Buckland Beacon

A small copse near Buckland Beacon, another granite tor overlooking the Dart valley. "Beacons" were places where ancient and pre-technology man lit "signal" fires.

Antje Derks is a fibre artist, writer and teacher of English. She lives in South Devon, close to Dartmoor. In her spare time, she hikes the moor looking for shed sheep’s wool along with plants, bark and other foliage to turn into dye. The wool is washed, carded and hand dyed and incorporated into her Dartmoor landscapes.
